The Value of a Good Pre Shot Routine

Developing a good Pre Shot Routine is a great way to improve your golf game and become a more consistent and capable player.

The term Pre Shot Routine refers to the actions a golfer takes before each and every shot they play, ensuring they are going through the same motions, in the same time frame for every shot.

For example, you may like to take your club from your bag, stand behind the ball and visualise the shot to the target, have a practise swing behind the ball, address the ball and play your shot. Or, you may prefer to simply address the ball, have a couple of waggles and play your shot.

There are many different Pre Shot Routines but the important thing is to find one which works for you and stick to it.

Practise it on the range and then use it on the course for every shot you play, and develop one that you feel most comfortable with on the greens too.

You’ll find that going through these motions when you practise and treating every shot on the driving range like a shot on the course, will mean your practise sessions are much more beneficial than simply hitting a bucket balls one after the other.

Check out this video of Tiger Woods to hear his thoughts on the importance of a good Pre Shot Routine.
